TLDR Ocu-miR-205 helps control hair growth in Rex rabbits by affecting cell processes and signaling pathways.
The study on Rex rabbits revealed that ocu-miR-205 played a crucial role in hair follicle development by being more highly expressed in rabbits with low hair densities. It increased cell proliferation and apoptosis, affected cell cycle progression, and modulated key signaling pathways such as PI3K/Akt, Wnt, Notch, and BMP. Ocu-miR-205 influenced secondary and total follicle densities without significantly changing primary follicle density, promoting the transition of hair follicles from growth to regression and resting phases. The study involved 100 Rex rabbits and suggested that ocu-miR-205 could potentially be used to improve fur quality by regulating hair follicle development.
