The study explores the anti-melanogenic potential of Hom Thong banana peel extracts, focusing on their ability to inhibit melanin synthesis by targeting tyrosinase (TYR) activity. The extracts, particularly the 95% ethanolic extract, showed strong inhibition of tyrosinase activity and melanin production in human and mouse melanoma cells, comparable to standard treatments like arbutin and kojic acid. Molecular docking studies revealed that rosmarinic acid, a key compound in the extracts, binds effectively to tyrosinase. The extracts also suppressed the expression of melanogenesis-related genes, suggesting their potential as natural agents for treating hyperpigmentation with fewer side effects.
