Multifunctional Hydrogel with Dual Functions of ROS Scavenging and Responsive Antibiotic Release for Synergistic Oral Mucositis Treatment

The study introduces QTMP-Gel, a multifunctional hydrogel designed to treat oral mucositis by combining ROS scavenging and responsive antibiotic release. Composed of quaternary ammonium chitosan, tannic acid, minocycline, and platinum nanoparticles, the hydrogel effectively reduces inflammation and bacterial infection. In vitro and in vivo experiments, including a hamster model, demonstrated its potential in accelerating wound healing, reducing inflammation, and promoting tissue repair. The hydrogel's dual function offers a promising therapeutic strategy for managing oral mucositis, although further research is suggested to explore epithelial regeneration and collagen remodeling.
