TLDR Combining treatments works best for early hair loss, while transplants are best for severe cases.
This retrospective study on idiopathic alopecia involved 50 participants and evaluated various hair restoration treatments and patient satisfaction. It found that combining platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy with topical minoxidil and finasteride significantly improved hair density and thickness, particularly in the frontal and vertex regions. Patient satisfaction was highest with multiple treatment combinations and longer durations, while surgical hair transplants, despite their invasiveness, achieved the highest satisfaction rates. The study concluded that non-surgical therapies are effective for early-stage hair loss, whereas hair transplants are the most definitive solution for severe cases. Limitations included a lack of racial diversity and reliance on self-reported data. The study emphasizes the importance of early intervention and combining treatments for optimal results.
