Interleukin 17 Expression in Psoriatic Skin Lesions Before and After Treatment with Platelet Rich Plasma

Musa Mohammed, M.D. NADER A. ISMAIL SAHAR F. MANSOUR
TLDR Platelet Rich Plasma reduces psoriasis symptoms but isn't enough alone for treatment.
This study investigated the effect of Platelet Rich Plasma (PrP) on Interleukin 17 (IL17) expression in psoriatic skin lesions in 24 patients. The study found that PrP injections led to significant reductions in clinical parameters such as size, erythema, thickness, and scaling of psoriatic plaques. Additionally, 6 out of 9 plaques that were initially positive for IL17 became negative after PrP treatment, whereas plaques injected with saline showed no change in IL17 expression. Despite these improvements, the study concluded that PrP treatment alone could not be considered a standalone therapeutic modality for localized plaque psoriasis.
