TLDR Previous alopecia areata treatments do not affect the long-term effectiveness of ritlecitinib.
This study analyzed 522 patients to assess the impact of previous alopecia areata treatments on the efficacy of ritlecitinib over 48 weeks. It found that prior treatments, including topicals, intralesional corticosteroids, topical immunotherapy, and systemic immunosuppressants, did not affect the long-term efficacy of ritlecitinib. While there were some associations at Week 24, such as a positive association with prior intralesional corticosteroid use and a negative one with systemic immunosuppressants, these associations were not significant by Week 48. The study concludes that previous alopecia areata treatments do not impact the longer-term effectiveness of ritlecitinib, supporting its use as a viable treatment option regardless of patients' treatment history.
