Improving Inter-Observer Variability in the Evaluation of Ultrasonographic Features of Polycystic Ovaries

The study aimed to reduce inter-observer variability in the ultrasonographic evaluation of polycystic ovaries by conducting a training workshop. Thirty women with polycystic ovary syndrome were assessed by six observers before and after the workshop. The workshop led to improved inter-observer agreement in evaluating follicle number per single cross-section, largest follicle diameter, ovarian volume, follicle distribution pattern, and presence of a corpus luteum, with moderate to good agreement. However, no improvement was observed for follicle number per ovary. The study concluded that standardized training modules could enhance the reliability of ultrasonographic evaluations, suggesting their implementation for consistent diagnosis of PCOS.
