TLDR Nanoparticles improve minoxidil skin permeation, but more research needed for effective hair growth.
The study aimed to improve the skin permeation of minoxidil, a drug used to treat hair loss, by developing a topical preparation that reduces the barrier function of skin and enhances the permeation of the active ingredient through skin. The researchers prepared monoolein cubic phase nanoparticles containing hydroxypropyl β-cyclodextrin/minoxidil complex and found that the nanoparticles had higher in vitro skin permeation of minoxidil loaded than that of minoxidil dissolved in propylene glycol/water/ethanol. However, the amount of minoxidil remained within the skin was higher with the minoxidil solution than with the nanoparticles. The study concluded that further research is needed to increase the skin retention of the nanoparticles for effective hair growth promotion.

in Minoxidil  1 upvotes 1 day ago
The user is using RU58841, Minoxidil, and weekly microneedling for hair loss, having stopped finasteride due to side effects like low libido and depression. They are considering dutasteride as an alternative but are cautious due to past experiences with DHT blockers.

community “Just minoxidil” users, how are you doing now?

in Minoxidil  23 upvotes 2 days ago
Minoxidil alone is often insufficient for significant hair regrowth, with many users experiencing limited results or side effects, leading them to add finasteride or dutasteride for better outcomes. Some users report initial improvements with minoxidil but eventually require additional treatments to maintain or enhance hair growth.

community Topical minoxidil responder tests + switching to oral

in Minoxidil  1 upvotes 2 days ago
The user has been using topical minoxidil with tretinoin for 9 months without much regrowth and suspects finasteride is responsible for any improvement. They are inquiring about tests to determine response to topical minoxidil and seeking advice on switching to oral minoxidil, including potential side effects and monitoring requirements.
