This study investigated the incidence of hair loss among U.S. female active component service members from 2010 to 2022, focusing on types of hair loss and racial/ethnic disparities. It highlighted challenges in estimating traction alopecia due to the lack of specific diagnosis codes. The study found an overall alopecia incidence rate of 804.4 per 100,000 person-years, with Non-Hispanic Black and Hispanic women experiencing the highest rates at 1,138.7 and 1,013.6 per 100,000 person-years, respectively. Non-Hispanic Black women were more than twice as likely to be diagnosed with alopecia compared to their non-Hispanic White counterparts.
