TLDR Telogen effluvium is the main cause of hair loss in women in Karak, followed by androgenetic alopecia.
The study investigated 400 female patients with diffuse hair loss in Karak Governorate, Jordan, from 2008-2011. Telogen effluvium was the most common pattern (63%), primarily triggered by nutritional factors, emotional and physiologic stress. Androgenetic alopecia was the second most common (19%), often associated with menstrual abnormalities, weight gain, and hirsutism. Traction alopecia, alopecia areata (5%), and trichotillomania (2%) were also observed. The study concluded that telogen effluvium was the predominant cause of hair loss, followed by androgenetic alopecia and other less common types.
