TLDR The 5/G hydrogel effectively improves diabetic wound healing.
The study developed a multifunctional injectable hydrogel incorporating cerium-containing bioactive glass nanoparticles (Ce-BG) into Gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) to address diabetic wound healing. The hydrogel demonstrated good cytocompatibility, enhanced angiogenesis, and significant antibacterial activity, particularly with the 5 mol % CeO2 composition. In vivo experiments on diabetic rats and mice showed that the hydrogel significantly improved wound healing by promoting granulation tissue formation, collagen deposition, and angiogenesis, while also being safe for kidney and liver functions. The findings suggested that the 5/G hydrogel could be a promising treatment for diabetic wounds due to its combined effects on cell proliferation, antibacterial activity, and tissue regeneration.
