TLDR Insulin resistance is common and linked to high male hormones in Pakistani women with PCOS.
This study investigated the relationship between insulin resistance and hyperandrogenism in 90 Pakistani women with PCOS. It found that 64.4% of participants exhibited insulin resistance, which was significantly correlated with increased levels of total testosterone, free androgen index, and modified Ferriman–Gallwey score, and inversely correlated with sex hormone-binding globulin levels. These associations remained significant even after adjusting for body mass index. The findings suggest that insulin resistance is prevalent and independently associated with hyperandrogenism in this population, highlighting the importance of early metabolic screening and targeted interventions to mitigate disease severity and long-term complications.
