TLDR Men with early hair loss may have higher risks of insulin resistance and metabolic issues.
This study examined the link between early-onset androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and metabolic disorders in young men, involving 200 participants (100 with AGA and 100 controls). It found that men with AGA had significantly higher waist circumference and insulin levels, with 18% having insulin resistance (IR) compared to 4% of controls, and 21% having metabolic syndrome (MetS) compared to 9% of controls. The results suggest that early-onset AGA may be a clinical marker for underlying metabolic disturbances, highlighting the need for metabolic risk screening in these individuals to enable preventive interventions.
