Evaluation of Intralesional Triamcinolone Acetonide and Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy in Patients With Mild Patch-Type Alopecia Areata

This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of intralesional platelet-rich plasma (PRP) versus intralesional triamcinolone acetonide (ILTA) in 60 patients with mild patch-type alopecia areata. Both treatments significantly reduced SALT scores over 6 months, with PRP decreasing from 6.03 to 0.93 and ILTA from 6.07 to 1.27, showing no significant difference between the two (p = 0.576). The very good response rate was slightly higher in the PRP group (76.67%) compared to the ILTA group (66.67%). Relapse rates were low, with 5% overall, and mild adverse events were reported in both groups. PRP is suggested as an alternative treatment option for mild patch-type alopecia areata due to its similar efficacy to ILTA and avoidance of steroid-related side effects.
