Note on Isocholesterol, Coprosterol and the Classification of the Sterols

Isocholesterol, initially questioned for its existence, was confirmed as a distinct sterol through experiments by Schulze and later Moreschi, who obtained it from wool fat. Its presence in the latex of South African rubber plants, containing 6% rubber and 70% resin, further supported its classification. Cohen's comparison of plant-derived isocholesterol with Schulze's original sample confirmed their identity, solidifying isocholesterol's status as a recognized sterol.
