TLDR Justicia procumbens helps hair grow and improves hair health as we age.
The study investigates the effects of Justicia procumbens aqueous extract (JPAE) on hair growth and age-related hair damage in mice. JPAE was found to promote the proliferation of human hair follicle dermal papilla cells and enhance hair regrowth in depilation-induced mice by upregulating β-catenin and related genes. In aged mice, JPAE alleviated epidermal thinning, hair follicle miniaturization, and cuticle damage, while normalizing expressions of Ang-1, Ang-2, Vcam1, and Icam1, suppressing pro-inflammatory cytokines, and improving vascular health. These results suggest JPAE's potential in maintaining hair health during aging, though further studies are needed to confirm its efficacy and safety in humans.
