A Case Study of Leech Therapy (Jalaukavacharana) in Khalitya with Special Reference to Alopecia Areata

The case study explores the use of leech therapy, or Jalaukavacharana, as a treatment for alopecia areata, a condition characterized by hair loss. This traditional Ayurvedic method involves using medicinal leeches to remove impure blood and introduce beneficial compounds through their saliva. A 30-year-old female patient with a six-year history of hair fall, dandruff, scalp irritation, and dryness underwent this therapy. Following classical Ayurvedic protocols, the patient experienced significant improvement, as documented through clinical observations and photographic evidence. Leech therapy is presented as a gentle, cost-effective, and minimally invasive alternative to conventional alopecia treatments, which often have adverse effects.
