TLDR Dutasteride is more effective than finasteride for long-term hair growth in men with androgenic alopecia.
This study compared the long-term effectiveness and safety of dutasteride and finasteride in treating male androgenic alopecia (AGA) in 600 South Korean patients. Dutasteride-treated patients (n=295) showed significantly greater improvement in hair growth compared to finasteride-treated patients (n=305), with 80.8% of dutasteride users showing improvement in BASP classification versus 47.8% of finasteride users. Both treatments had similar safety profiles, with low rates of adverse events and treatment discontinuation. The study supports dutasteride's superior efficacy in long-term AGA treatment.
