TLDR A 4-year-old girl with a rare lupus condition was successfully treated with oral corticosteroids, leading to full recovery and hair regrowth.
Lupus panniculitis is a rare form of cutaneous lupus erythematosus, with linear and annular lupus panniculitis of the scalp (LALPS) being a distinctive variant that presents as nonscarring alopecia along Blaschko's lines. This case report describes a 4-year-old girl with LALPS, characterized by erythematous plaques on the scalp and face, which resolved completely with oral prednisolone treatment over 8 weeks, leading to significant hair regrowth within 5 months. LALPS is distinguished from classical lupus panniculitis by its unique presentation and lower risk of progression to systemic lupus erythematosus. Regular follow-up is recommended despite the low risk of systemic involvement.
