Mask-free generation of multicellular 3D heterospheroids array for high-throughput combinatorial anti-cancer drug screening

    The study proposed a mask-free method for generating multicellular 3D heterospheroids using a digital micromirror device-based hydrogel fabricating system and a microfluidic system. This approach allowed for the creation of microwell arrays and the cultivation of heterospheroids with multiple cell types in controlled ratios over extended periods. The research demonstrated that these heterospheroids exhibited a higher rate of drug resistance compared to homospheroids, and that combinatorial drug treatments were more effective than single drugs. This method provided a promising process for high-throughput combinatorial anti-cancer drug screening with potential applications in cancer therapy.
