TLDR Dissecting cellulitis of the scalp is linked to metabolic and psychiatric issues, mainly affecting men of various races.
This study on dissecting cellulitis of the scalp (DCS) challenges the traditional view of it primarily affecting young Black men, highlighting instead a global heterogeneity with a strong male predominance and diverse racial representation. The retrospective cohort study of 29 patients and a scoping review of 17 published cohorts (710 patients) revealed that 82.8% of patients had metabolic dysfunction-associated comorbidities, and 41.4% had psychiatric diagnoses. The study underscores the association of DCS with male sex, metabolic, and psychiatric comorbidities, while noting limitations such as the small sample size and lack of a control group.
