Assessment of Metabolic Syndrome in Patients Diagnosed with Melasma in a Dermatology Service

    Jéssica Silva, Denise Steiner
This study evaluated the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in 58 women diagnosed with melasma, revealing that 29.3% met three or more criteria for MetS. The participants had a mean age of 46.7 years and an average melasma duration of 10.5 years. The findings indicate a considerable prevalence of MetS among these patients, suggesting the importance of considering metabolic factors in managing melasma and preventing MetS-related complications, although causality cannot be established from this association.
