TLDR Apeiba tibourbou seed oil has analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects, making it potentially useful for food and medicine.
The study on Apeiba tibourbou Aubl. focused on the morpho-anatomy, chemical variability, and biological activity of the fixed oil from its seeds, which was traditionally used in Costa Rica for reducing hair loss and treating spasms. The research involved collecting samples from five specimens in Brazil and analyzing the oil's physicochemical properties and lipid profile. The oil yield was 23.83%, with lauric acid as the major constituent (25.42%), followed by palmitic acid (23.50%) and linoleic acid (11.51%). The oil also contained omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, including eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). The study found that the oil exhibited analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects, suggesting its potential for food and medicinal use.
