TLDR Morus alba root extract promotes hair growth by activating hair follicles.

The study investigated the effects of Morus alba root extract (MARE) on human hair follicle dermal papilla cells (HFDPCs) and found that MARE induced the anagen phase, the active growth phase of hair follicles. MARE, containing chlorogenic acid and umbelliferone, was non-cytotoxic at a 20% concentration and activated β-catenin, essential for the telogen-to-anagen transition. It increased the expression of growth factors like VEGF, FGF7, and others, enhancing angiogenesis and promoting keratinocyte proliferation and differentiation. The study, conducted on 3 to 4 samples, suggested MARE's potential as a treatment for alopecia with fewer side effects compared to conventional treatments.
