TLDR Stem cell therapy helps heal burn wounds faster in animals.
The systematic review assessed the efficacy of mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) transplantation for burn wounds in animals, analyzing 20 studies primarily involving rats and mice. MSCs were found to promote burn wound healing, with significant improvements in closure rates observed on the 7th and 14th days post-treatment, although no significant difference was noted by the 21st day. Secondary outcomes indicated increased eschar thickness and vascular density in MSC-treated animals. The review highlighted potential therapeutic benefits of MSCs in accelerating wound healing, but also noted significant heterogeneity and potential publication bias, emphasizing the need for further research to confirm these findings and address safety concerns.
