TLDR Trichoscopy helps diagnose unclear hair loss cases effectively.
The study involving 329 patients with non-cicatricial alopecia (NCA) demonstrated that trichoscopy significantly aids in diagnosing ambiguous cases, with alopecia areata being the most common cause (39.2%). Trichoscopic features like black dots and exclamation mark hairs were significantly associated with different NCA subtypes. Trichoscopy improved diagnostic accuracy in 28.2% of unclear cases, highlighting its clinical utility as a first-line adjunctive tool, despite limitations such as single-observer interpretation and lack of a gold standard for validation.
