TLDR Non-compliance with PCOS medication worsens symptoms and highlights the need for better patient support and education.
This case study highlights the challenges of managing chronic polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) due to medication non-compliance. A patient, aged 28 to 34, experienced complications from PCOS, including excess androgen production and oligo-amenorrhea, and was prescribed metformin HCl and Lo Loestrin Fe. However, non-compliance with the medication regimen led to persistent symptoms like irregular bleeding and severe hirsutism. The study emphasizes the need for improved patient education, proactive management of medication side effects, and financial assistance to enhance treatment adherence and improve long-term health outcomes for individuals with PCOS.
