TLDR Notch1 helps skin heal by attracting cells that aid repair.
The study investigated the role of Notch1 signalling in skin repair, revealing that its activation in epidermal keratinocytes after acute skin injury recruited innate lymphoid cells (ILC3s) to the injury site through a TNF-α/CCL20-dependent mechanism. This process controlled macrophage/monocyte recruitment via ILC3-dependent CCL3. Additionally, Notch1 induced the production of IL23 in the epidermis, which enabled ILC3s to produce IL22, promoting re-epithelialization and skin repair.
