TLDR The new hair product quickly reduces hair shedding in women.
The study evaluated the efficacy of a novel topical cosmetic formulation, DA-OTC-002, which combines an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor agonist (synephrine) and a trace amine-associated receptor (TAAR) agonist (tyramine hydrochloride), in reducing hair shedding in females. Involving 76 healthy female participants, the study found that the treatment significantly reduced hair shedding by 62.5% compared to the placebo, with an average of 13.62 hairs shed in the treatment group versus 36.26 in the placebo group (p < 0.0001). The formulation showed rapid effects within 5 minutes of application and no adverse events were reported. The study suggests potential benefits for both short-term and possibly long-term use, with future comparisons to 5% minoxidil recommended. The mechanism of action suggests applicability for preventing hair loss in males as well.
