TLDR Isotretinoin is recommended for acne treatment as it is as effective as cyproterone compound.
This study compared the effectiveness of oral isotretinoin and cyproterone compound in treating nodulocystic acne among 30 adult females with cutaneous hyperandrogenism. Participants were divided into two groups of 15, receiving either cyproterone compound or isotretinoin, along with topical benzoyl peroxide. Results showed no significant difference in acne severity index (ASI) score reduction between the two treatments, with both groups experiencing minor side effects. The study concluded that cyproterone compound is not more effective than isotretinoin, recommending isotretinoin for its established efficacy. Further research is suggested to evaluate these treatments independently of androgen levels.
