Proteolytic Enzymes Papain and Chymotrypsin Combined with Laser Techniques for the Management of Facial Hirsutism

This study investigated the effectiveness of combining proteolytic enzymes papain and chymotrypsin with laser treatment for managing facial hirsutism in 30 adult Caucasian women. Participants were divided into two groups: one received laser treatment with enzyme iontophoresis, and the other received laser treatment alone. Results showed that the group receiving the combination treatment experienced a significantly greater reduction in hair count (48.70% decrease) compared to the laser-only group (25.60% decrease), with a p-value of 0.017. The study concludes that iontophoretic delivery of these enzymes can enhance the efficacy of laser treatments for hirsutism.
