TLDR Patients with alopecia areata prefer treatments that regrow scalp hair quickly over how often they need to take the medication.
The study involved 302 adults with alopecia areata and used a discrete choice experiment to assess patient preferences for Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKis). The results showed that patients prioritize the percentage of scalp hair regrowth (60% decision weight) and the speed of initial hair regrowth (28.2%) over dosing frequency (11.7%). Drug profile C (deuruxolitinib 8 mg) was preferred by 83% of participants, while drug profile B (ritlecitinib 50 mg) was least preferred by 85%. The study emphasizes the importance of considering patient preferences for efficacy and speed of hair regrowth in treatment decisions, and suggests future research should also address the impact of alopecia areata on eyebrows and eyelashes.
