TLDR Women with PCOS may have a higher risk of Alzheimer's disease.
This article explores the potential link between Alzheimer disease and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), highlighting shared risk factors such as insulin resistance, dysregulation of the kynurenine pathway, and impairment of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, all of which are associated with amyloid-beta aggregation. The study emphasizes the role of tryptophan metabolism disorders in both conditions. The review of existing literature suggests that systemic changes in PCOS may elevate the risk of neurodegeneration, indicating a possible increased risk of Alzheimer disease in women with PCOS.
