The Effects of Phosphodiesterase 3 (PDE3) Inhibitor on Hair Follicle Cell Viability and Hair Growth

TLDR PDE3 inhibitor may help treat hair loss by promoting hair growth.
The study investigated the effects of phosphodiesterase 3 (PDE3) inhibitor on hair growth, focusing on human dermal papilla cells (DPCs) and outer root sheath cells (ORSCs). It was found that PDE3 inhibitor enhanced the proliferation of DPCs and regulated the secretion of growth factors that promote hair growth. The inhibitor also promoted hair shaft elongation in ex vivo cultures and accelerated anagen induction in C57BL/6 mice by stimulating vessel formation and activating the mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway. These findings suggested that PDE3 inhibitor could be a potential therapeutic agent for treating alopecia.
