Perfectionism and Body Dysmorphic Disorder Symptoms Among Men Seeking and Not Seeking Hair Transplant

    Aqsa Israr, Rabia Mushtaq
TLDR Men seeking hair transplants show higher perfectionism and body dysmorphic disorder symptoms.
The study examined the relationship between perfectionism and body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) symptoms among 150 balding men, split evenly between those seeking and not seeking hair transplants, in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Using the Multi-Dimensional Perfectionism Scale and the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale modified for BDD, the study found that perfectionism was significantly positively related to BDD symptoms (p<.01). Men seeking hair transplants exhibited higher levels of both perfectionism (mean 184.53) and BDD symptoms (mean 14.37) compared to those not seeking treatment, who had lower mean scores of 180.16 for perfectionism and 11.25 for BDD symptoms.
