TLDR Hair transplantation improves self-esteem and social confidence, but managing expectations and psychological risks is crucial for success.
Hair transplantation significantly enhances psychological well-being by boosting self-esteem, body image, and social confidence, with satisfaction rates of 75%-90% among patients with realistic expectations. The review underscores the emotional distress caused by hair loss, which can lead to anxiety and depression, especially in women and younger individuals. It stresses the importance of managing expectations and using psychological screening tools like the BDDQ and BDI to identify those at risk of poor outcomes. A multidisciplinary approach involving dermatologists, surgeons, and mental health professionals is recommended to ensure surgical success translates into improved quality of life. Identifying psychological risks, such as body dysmorphic disorder, and supporting realistic motivations are crucial for successful outcomes.
