TLDR Dutasteride mesotherapy for hair loss can cause lasting bald patches.
This case series reports on 3 female patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) who developed persistent alopecic patches following mesotherapy with dutasteride. Despite the increasing popularity of localized scalp injections to mitigate systemic side effects of 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors, complications can occur. The first case involved a 44-year-old woman who, after a single session of dutasteride mesotherapy, experienced persistent hair loss. The treatment involved a 0.025% concentration of dutasteride mixed with an anesthetic solution, administered with 4 mm, 30G needles. This highlights the potential risks associated with mesotherapy for AGA, despite its intended benefits.
