TLDR Dutasteride mesotherapy can cause hair loss in some people.
This case series examines the unexpected occurrence of nonscarring alopecia in 15 subjects following mesotherapy with dutasteride, a 5-α-reductase inhibitor. Despite its intended use to minimize systemic side effects, 4 subjects experienced patchy hair loss, with 2 reporting excessive shedding. The study suggests that these adverse effects could be due to the preservatives or the dutasteride itself, underscoring the necessity for standardized treatment protocols and further research to identify at-risk patients. The findings highlight the importance of evaluating the risk/benefit ratio when considering mesotherapy for hair loss treatment.
