TLDR Plant-based compounds show promise for treating neurodegenerative diseases but need more research.
Neurodegenerative disorders (NDs) like Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, Huntington's, and ALS are major global health concerns with no effective therapeutics currently available. Existing treatments focus on symptom management but face challenges such as drug resistance and poor bioavailability. This review highlights the potential of plant-derived compounds, including quercetin, curcumin, EGCG, apigenin, and cannabinoids, as promising alternatives for treating NDs. These phytomedicines offer advantages but also have limitations that need addressing. The article emphasizes the need for further pre-clinical and clinical research to develop effective plant-based drugs for NDs.
