TLDR The herbal shampoo is a chemical-free, nourishing product with excellent conditioning, cleansing, and antimicrobial effects.
The study developed a polyherbal shampoo using extracts from Ziziphus spina-christi, Salix babylonica, and Glycyrrhiza glabra as natural alternatives to synthetic ingredients like sodium lauryl sulfate. The shampoo demonstrated superior conditioning and cleansing properties, excellent foaming ability, and significant antimicrobial and antioxidant activities. In a blind touch test with 25 female volunteers, it was rated highest for conditioning performance. Scanning electron microscope analysis showed smoother hair cuticles compared to commercial shampoos. The presence of phenolic compounds and saponins contributed to its effectiveness, suggesting it could be a viable natural alternative for promoting healthy hair with minimal side effects.
