A Comprehensive Investigation Into Prebiotic Influence of Orange Pectin on Synergistic Modulation of Probiotic Viability

    Sohani Solanke
TLDR Orange pectin boosts probiotic growth, especially L. acidophilus.
The study investigates the prebiotic potential of pectin from Nagpuri orange on probiotic strains L. acidophilus, L. plantarum, B. bifidum, and B. lactis. Results show a significant increase in bacterial colonies, particularly L. acidophilus, in both in vitro and in vivo settings using Sprague Dawley rats. The co-administration of pectin with these probiotics enhances their viability, suggesting its potential use in nutraceutical formulations as a prebiotic or synbiotic component. Further quantitative analysis is recommended to optimize its application.
