TLDR Minimizing hair shaving before brain tumor surgery can improve self-esteem.
This study investigated the impact of preoperative hair shaving on self-esteem in 179 brain tumor surgery patients. Patients were divided into groups based on the extent of shaving: no shaving, partial shaving, and total shaving. The study found that total head shaving was significantly associated with lower postoperative self-esteem, as measured by the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. Functional and neurological outcomes did not significantly affect self-esteem. The conclusion suggests that minimizing hair shaving when possible may improve psychological outcomes and support a more holistic recovery for patients.
