Prevention of Impending Scalp Necrosis by Topical Nitroglycerin in Hair Transplant Surgery

    TLDR Topical nitroglycerin spray effectively prevents scalp necrosis in hair transplant patients.
    In a retrospective observational study involving 1580 hair transplant cases, the use of topical nitroglycerin (NTG) spray was assessed for its ability to prevent scalp necrosis. The spray was applied to 88 patients who exhibited signs of impending necrosis, and it was found to be effective in 83 of these cases (94.32%), averting necrosis with an average resolution time of 30 minutes. Only 5 patients (0.32%) developed necrosis despite the treatment, which was a lower incidence compared to the 0.88% in a control group not treated with NTG spray. The study demonstrated that NTG spray, due to its vasodilatory properties, is an effective preventive measure against scalp necrosis in hair transplant patients.
