TLDR Recognizing and fully removing giant pilomatrixomas is crucial to prevent them from becoming cancerous.
Pilomatrixoma is a benign tumor originating from the hair follicle matrix, commonly seen in children and young adults. This case report discusses a 36-year-old female with a giant pilomatrixoma on her cheek, which grew rapidly after trauma. The mass was excised due to concerns of malignancy, and histopathology confirmed it as a proliferating pilomatrixoma. The case highlights the importance of recognizing variants like giant and proliferative pilomatrixomas and ensuring complete surgical excision to prevent recurrence or malignant transformation.
