TLDR A multidisciplinary approach is crucial for supporting the well-being of people with alopecia areata.
The study used a modified Delphi method with 48 panellists to develop recommendations for promoting the well-being of individuals with alopecia areata (AA). It emphasized the importance of a multidisciplinary approach, involving medical and mental health professionals, to address the psychological challenges faced by individuals with AA, such as depression and anxiety. Key recommendations included validating the emotional impact of AA, respecting coping strategies, and adopting a holistic approach to support. The study identified gaps in support for children, young people, and underrepresented groups, and highlighted the need for further research to address diverse needs. The recommendations aim to guide care providers and enhance the well-being of those affected by AA.
