TLDR Hair loss significantly affects emotional and social well-being.
This study assessed the impact of alopecia areata (AA) and androgenetic alopecia (AGA) on the quality of life (QoL) of 72 patients (41 males and 31 females) at a tertiary care center in eastern Bihar. Using the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) questionnaire, the study found that both AA and AGA moderately affected patients' QoL, impacting not only physiological aspects but also emotional and social aspects. The mean DLQI score was 7.833 for AA and 9.595 for AGA, indicating a significant psychological impact associated with hair loss. The study highlights the importance of patient-oriented outcomes in managing the disease to improve QoL.
