BH08 Evaluating Quality-Of-Life Measures For Alopecia: A Comparative Analysis Of Dermatology Life Quality Index And Hospital Anxiety And Depression Scale Correlations With Disease Severity

Chris Puo Nen Lim, Susan Holmes
TLDR DLQI is a reasonable quality-of-life measure for alopecia patients, but more research is needed.
The study evaluated the effectiveness of quality-of-life (QoL) measures, specifically the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), in patients with alopecia areata (AA). Involving 179 patients, the research found moderate positive correlations between DLQI and HADS scores, with DLQI also correlating with clinician-rated disease severity. Patients with a psychiatric history and nonscarring alopecia had higher scores, and younger patients tended to have higher DLQI scores. While DLQI appears to be a reasonable QoL measure for alopecia patients, further research is needed to determine the most effective tools for assessing QoL in this population.
