TLDR These hair loss conditions might be part of a spectrum, not separate issues.
The document described a case of rapidly progressive diffuse fibrosing alopecia in a 25-year-old man, characterized by overlapping features of frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA), lichen planopilaris (LPP), fibrosing alopecia with a pattern distribution (FAPD), and cicatricial pattern hair loss (CPHL). The patient exhibited significant hair thinning and small patches of hair loss across the scalp, with histopathologic findings of lichenoid folliculitis and concentric fibrosis. Treatment included oral glycyrrhizin, topical tacrolimus, and halometasone, with subsequent stabilization and eyebrow regrowth. The study suggested that these conditions might exist along a spectrum, with diffuse fibrosing alopecia representing a widespread form. Further research was needed to clarify the pathogenesis and distinctions between these overlapping alopecia subtypes.
