TLDR A new method reliably detects minoxidil in hair products, revealing some non-compliance with regulations.
The study developed and validated a rapid HPLC-UV method for detecting minoxidil in hair growth products, addressing regulatory concerns about its systemic absorption and antihypertensive effects. The method met ICH guidelines for selectivity, linearity, precision, accuracy, robustness, and sensitivity. Analysis of 9 products found that 2 contained minoxidil, showing 22.22% non-compliance with regulations. Further verification with HPLC-MS is recommended.
