TLDR Both oral and topical minoxidil effectively regrow hair in men with similar results.
This randomized controlled trial compared the efficacy of oral minoxidil (1.25 mg and 2.5 mg) to topical 5% minoxidil in 45 male patients with androgenetic alopecia over 6 months. All treatment groups showed a significant increase in terminal hair count per square centimeter in both the frontal and vertex areas, with no statistical difference in efficacy among the groups. However, patients using oral minoxidil reported greater satisfaction with their hair's overall appearance compared to those using topical minoxidil. The study concludes that both oral and topical minoxidil are effective for hair regrowth in men with AGA, with comparable efficacy.
